New RFID Access Control - Security for Staff and Jewelry Showcases

Posted

The Swim jewellery software team has been looking at a new RFID based access control system. There is many components and options, but the basics are that each staff member has an RFID tag of some sort, (badge, key tag or wristband), and that tag could be used to provide a password to the Swim system for identifying the operator, (fast and secure), and you could use the same RFID tag to unlock the jewellery cabinets and also to unlock any doors in the store too.

When used to it's full capabilities you'd be able to get:
- Marketing opportunity & enhanced security - Identification of which cabinets are opened, how often, by who and when. For marketing you could see which cabinet generates the most traffic and prioritise which cabinets to display which products in.

- Cost saving - No need to change locks when keys are lost or misplaced or when staff change.

- Convenience - Ability to temporarily change security privileges of staff to allow them to for example open the front door when they may not normally have the ability to do that.

- Convenience - Fast and easy opening of each cabinet.

- Labour saving - Time and attendance functionality

- Enhanced security - Integration with security cameras for enhanced security

- Enhanced security - No chance of keys being copied

- Enhanced security - No temptation to leave cabinets unlocked, as it's so fast and easy to unlock them.

The hardware cost of this type of system would sit around $6000

What we'd like to know is whether this is something of interest.  At Swim we want to ensure we are spending time on features that you will use in store.  If this is something that you are interested in, please email support@octahedron.com.au now and just let us know. If there is enough interest, we will look at incorporating this new technology into Swim.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
